Maintenance Art at Mark Wahlberg’s Star on Hollywood Blvd.

This is my alternative choice instead of doing the counterfactual identity activity, sorry.

Discussion Questions

Why did you choose this person’s Star?

I chose this star because Mark Wahlberg is one of my favorite actors. I enjoy the roles he plays. A few of them are based off true stories such as Deep Water Horizon, Lone Survivor, and Patriots Day. Personally, I think Wahlberg does an amazing job at showcasing the stories of the people in which hes reenacting.

How did you feel performing your action?

I felt neutral if I’m being honest. I just thought of it as a little act of appreciation but that’s about it. The act of me cleaning the star was quite quick as well since I was just using some paper towels to scrub off some of the dirt and grime.

Did it feel different from the chores at home?

Yes it felt a little different. Chores at home are sort of a routine, while as for the star, I had to go out of my way and drive all the way to LA to clean the star. Also, chores at home are secluded meaning that only your family members see you doing them. When I was cleaning Wahlberg’s star, it felt a bit awkward since people started starring.

Was your performance “art”?

No, I don’t think my performance was “art”. It was quite quick and many other people perform maintenance duties on buildings, sidewalks, roads, etc. in which their work has never been considered “art”. Personally, it just comes down to perception. If someone wants to consider a maintenance duty “art” that’s fine. If not, that’s also fine.
